Three Tips to Innovate Corporate Training

If you are responsible for developing corporate training, you will know that you have the opportunity to promote learning. This is a huge responsibility and has therefore be approached with care and attention. Don’t just fill a PowerPoint presentation with length, boring slides, and don’t believe that providing information is the same as teaching. Getting it right can be difficult, but once you get the hang of it, it will become so much easier. Let’s take a look at three things you can do to truly innovate your corporate training efforts.

1. It Is About Both Concepts and Content

It is likely that there are some mandatory things that you have to deliver. This means that your content is already sorted. However, there are plenty of topics that have to be developed from scratch. You have make sure that you training is offered in a logical sense, where information flows. This is particularly important with interactive corporate training, which is delivered mainly online. This is because you won’t have the chance to redirect learning in front of a classroom.

2. You Need a Program not a Presentation

Corporate trainers have gotten too used to PowerPoint. They have, at some point, started lecturing and stopped teaching. Sure, a presentation is useful, particularly if you get the concepts and content right, but simply spoon feeding your audience information doesn’t lead to understanding. You have to be interactive and have activities, tests, quizzes, puzzles, and more in order to get the message across. If you deliver the training in person, you need to interact with your audience and tell them a lot more than what is on your presentation. With interactive, online training, you should challenge them to think beyond the text they are reading. After all, if it was a case of simply providing them with information, you may as well have given them your slides to read and left it at that.

3. Get Rid of PowerPoint

PowerPoint, as stated several times now, is really no longer the medium for good training. When it was first developed, it was a perfect medium because it was new and as interactive as computerized programs could get. We loved being able to make slides fly in and information zoom out, with lots of colors and pictures. Today, however, PowerPoint is old. What with mobile apps, electronic support assistants, and Google, PowerPoint is an old dinosaur. You can still use it for some small pieces of information like tables or pie charts (pie charts aren’t particularly popular anymore either, by the way), but better ways of learning have now been identified.

It’s all about being interactive and about delivering material in such a way that is useful both in person and online. The information has to challenge people to think for themselves and to think beyond the content that has been provided. To achieve this, you have to be mindful of both the different teaching styles and the different learning styles, making sure there is something for everybody in your information.
